Mel was born in Harbin, China, moved to the great state of Iowa when she was 6 years old, graduated from the University of Iowa College of Law in May of 2012, and currently works as an attorney in Chicago, Illinois.  She models part-time and enjoys learning about photography and fashion.

Mel began modeling around 2008 with The Peak Agency in Des Moines, IA. Since then, she has worked as a model in multiple runway shows, TV commercials, print advertisements, newspaper articles, promotional events, as well as on screen roles for multiple television series.
